The United Airlines Fiasco Caricatures Modern America

An Asian-American doctor refused to get off a United Airlines flight that was overbooked Sunday evening.

By doing so, he managed to spark a veritable Tiananmen Square-tier outpouring of customer disgust at the callousness of the corporate airline giant United Airlines.

From Zerohedge:

Bridges said the man became “very upset” and said that he was a doctor who needed to see patients at a hospital in the morning. The manager told him that security would be called if he did not leave willingly, Bridges said, and the man said he was calling his lawyer. One security official came and spoke with him, and then another security officer came when he still refused. Then, she said, a third security official came on the plane and threw the passenger against the armrest before dragging him out of the plane.

This story has gone viral. Everyone is tweeting about it and debating whether the dress is really gold or blue the airline is in the wrong. But the real answer is that no one here is in the right. It is all one jaw-dropping dystopian caricature of modern America.

The video really is something. Can you really believe that this is the U.S.? I dont even know who to root for. It all feels too absurd.

This episode marks an important cultural moment. If there was ever a snapshot in time that encapsulated the American experiment, it would be this one right here. Of course, we can debate the details of what happened. United Airlines’ offer of 800$ worth of flight credit. The practice of overbooking. Customer compliance.

All of that is missing the bigger picture though.

Lets break it down. It starts with the people on the plane. Notice how fat everyone is in Wall-e land. Look at the complacent, dumb, doughboy mug of the passenger in front of the doctor. He looks around and smiles timidly at the figure hovering over him while blinking like a dumb cow. He has no idea that the Dindu Bossman is about to go full Harambe on the insolent doctor, but he’s got his safety belt on just in case. Pillsbury Doughboy looks put off by the violent thumping against his seat and belatedly turns his balding dome to peer over at the fracas. All three of the Dindus drag the screeching Asian man out of his seat and throw him head first into the adjacent arm rest.

The smartphone-wielding passengers recoil, and the ghastly overweight women shriek in horror at the sight of the doctor being dragged limply through the aisle. One Latino-looking man (also morbidly obese) applauds the officers with “police” written on their jackets as they drag the limp sack of meat down the aisle and out of the plane.

There is a second camera angle.

The high-empathy Americana soccer mom moans. The police’s treatment of the passenger shocks and horrifies her. “What are you doing?” she cries. Pointless effort on her part. The Dindus don’t even bat an eye as they shuffle by. Her chubby husband grumbles with a pained look on his white face. The Latinos have the same concerned face as their White neighbors, but they keep quiet.

America has become an observe and report society. The Asian man will get a huge settlement. Going through that humiliating ordeal will pay off in the long run. “Better to be tried by 12, then hung by 6” seems like a quaint linguistic and cultural relic of the cowboy era. “Better to be a victim, and wait for your settlement” works better nowadays.

My sympathies in this debauched farce lie with the obstinate Asian middle-class wrench in the machine.

Asians are meek, docile and compliant…until they snap.

The stark and uncomfortable modern flight experience best encapsulate the souls American corporate state. The TSA, the multiculti, and the small seats are a veritable cocktail of pozz that makes flying god-awful. Funny enough, that poor asian man simply traded the Communist Party of China for the Transportation and Safety Administration.

  • This was all United’s fault. The bidding should have gone higher. 800$ of flight credit, not even cash? That’s a drop in a bucket. I’d take four free tickets to anywhere (transferable), a much larger purse for the taker – say a few thousand dollars cash, a reservation on the first flight in the morning and free hotel/bar/restaurant to stay back at the airport. Someone would have gotten off that plane. That is what you do if you are customer service oriented. Because it was all the airlines’ fault, they should have kept raising the prize until the customer is happy. They just didn’t offer enough. This was not assault worthy. I mean they let all sorts of questionable characters on planes and weapons slip through security, now the TSA wants to get serious? Anarcho-tyrrany: if you can’t control the criminals, you control the innocent.

  • I don’t fly very often, but it does seem to me like overbooking happens fairly often. The airlines offer vouchers towards a later flight as compensation (plus a later flight to where the person was going, of course). To me, a voucher isn’t worth much, since I don’t fly very often. If they offered actual no-strings-attached money then they might get more willing volunteers.

Another strike against the airline is that the reason they needed four volunteers to leave the plane was because they had four employees who needed to get somewhere for another flight. In other words, the four employees were not needed for the current flight. The airline was being sloppy and inconsiderate in letting all the seats be occupied by paying customers and then realizing at the last instant that it needed four of the seats for employees.

  • You’re looking at the “model citizen”. America needs more Asians! We need to wizened doctors squealing like autistic toddlers when they don’t get their way.

  • Four passengers were asked to leave to make room for the attendants, since the flight was overbooked.

Maybe in the future the airlines will only ask whites to leave their seats, since nonwhites squeal like pigs and get their home countries involved when it happens to them. Mr. Law is sympathetic with this squealing oriental. Whose side is he on, anyway?

  • Sorry, but United is to blame here for overbooking the plane. All United (and any other airline) needs to do is sell each seat up front with the understanding that the reservation cannot be canceled and is nonrefundable.

If there was an emergency requiring four of United’s employees, United should have chartered a small private jet to fly them where they were needed. With the tons of business they are going to lose over this, not only the settlement amount they are going to have to pay to this Asian doctor, they are going to wish they had.

Failing that, I also feel that United should have just kept upping the ante until they could find four volunteers. But since they didn’t, once the Asian doctor had said that he was flying out to a patient who desperately needed his services, that should have been that and they should have drafted another passenger.

    • They needed seats for the flight attendants. You are right that they shouldn’t have overbooked. I don’t know how this happens in general, but the airlines certainly have the legal right to ask people to leave their seats. Perhaps they abuse that right for the sake of profit, but there must be other variables involved. Perhaps they had to use a different plane, which had fewer seats.

Let’s not give this unruly passenger too much benefit of the doubt. What was the situation, really? Was he on standby? Did someone with a non-standby ticket show up at the last minute? Don’t we all want to arrive at our destination on time?

If he hadn’t been forced to give up his seat, then someone else would have. Would you rather it be you? When an airline overbooks, usually it asks someone to give up his or her seat in exchange for free tickets in the future. It appears that nobody took this offer, which means that no one wanted to give up his or her seat.

  • Mr. Law’s sympathies lie with the oriental man. Mr. Law goes out of his way to put down whites who happen to be nearby. To me, this suggests that Mr. Law is a bit anti-white.

What happens when whites are asked to leave planes like this? Do they refuse, just sit there, and start squealing like cornered animals? No. They get up and move. There is something about orientals involved in how this situation played out. They can be extremely obstinate when confronted.

  • The Doc checked in. was given his ticket…and got on the plane. It should have been last come last serve. I wouldn’t like being kicked off because the dumbass airline overbooked…and $800 is shit compo, you have to x10.

  • Are you old enough to remember when flying was White, and it was very rare to see a non-White on an airplane, even on a flight to New York. It hasn’t been that many years ago, that flying became a non-White mode of transportation, the mid-1970’s is when things began to change.

  • Am I the only one who finds this funny? I mean what a screeching idiot and the braying cows that look on and film..

  • [Screw your “approval,” altright.com, I’m resposting this.]

Vincent, you’re reading way too much into this incident. This time around, the dindus truly dindu nuffin wrong. Credit where it’s due: well done, boys. (Extra credit if top brass sent in dindus specifically in order to avoid a “racist” whites-harassing-little-chinaman bruhaha.)

“Better to be tried by 12, then hung by 6”

    That’s carried by six, champ.

You’re absolutely right about this, though. How dare that guy be overweight! And how dare he keep his nose clean rather than throw himself into an altercation that clearly doesn’t involve him! The only appropriate course of action here would have been to jump to his feet and stare the dindu dead in the eye and order him to, “N—-r, back the f–k off. Now.”

      • There is some automatic filter when you use certain words.

        • Yeah I got it too. I got my comment with “chink” in it fine, but then I was going to comment on something else with no racial slurs and it didn’t get through.

    • If he was white, how would you feel? Would you be like, “Stupid fuckin niggers assaulting the good white doctor! Send those animals back to Africa!!! Reeeee!!!”?

    • You just take your private jet, I presume. Lol @ these losers who have to fly retail.

      • Mostly I drive, I have a rather simple lifestyle. If you were to offer me a ride on your private jet, however, I wouldn’t turn you down.

  • If this Asian Doctor is some kind of important surgeon and had surgeries scheduled that day, then United Airlines is fucked. If he wasn’t scheduled to work, then he’s probably fucked.

  • I have zero sympathies for the chinaman. Starts wailing like a total bitch while being a passive aggressive hard-ass refusing to comply with common decency and decorum. It’s indicative of how most Asians behave: absurdly passive aggressive, obstinate, and convinced that their 100% right. They should keep dragging his fat ass onto a boat and ship him back to China where he belongs.

    • plus, we already know that they had promised the volunteers a 3 pm flight and I think it’s safe to assume that he’d get on that flight. he’d still get to see his patients in the morning. but, i think he’ll get a settlement out of court, nonetheless. United really isn’t likely to want this in the news during a long and costly courtroom battle.

    • When I was on jury duty last year, a doctor said that he couldn’t serve because he had patients to see. The judge asked him whether any other doctor could see them. Of course, other doctors could tend to his patients. No single doctor is indispensable.

      • Not necessarily indispensable, but the majority of patients would prefer to see the physician who knows them best, rather than a doctor covering for his or her colleague.

    • “It’s indicative of how most Asians behave: absurdly passive aggressive, obstinate, and convinced that their 100% right.”

Perhaps if Huwhite people were more like Asians they wouldn’t have forfeited their countries to third worlders who hate them.
