Trump is Right Again! Nunes Confirms Trump Surveillance

There have been some stunning developments in the Obama/Trump wiretapping debacle.

Zerohedge has an excellent write-up:

“Fox News sources, congressional investigators expect that a potential “smoking gun” from the NSA establishing that the Obama administration spied on the Trump transition team, and possibly the president-elect himself, will be produced to the House Intelligence Committee as early as tomorrow.

And the quote from Fox News:

The intelligence is said to leave no doubt the Obama administration, in its closing days, was using the cover of legitimate surveillance on foreign targets to spy on President-elect Trump.

In short, Trump was right…again.

Tyler’s take:

“In the aftermath of today’s most stunning news report, namely the confirmation that Trump may have been right all along following the admission of House Intel Committee Chair Devin Nunes that the communications of Trump’s aides and the president himself had been “incidentally” monitored, Nunes held an explosive press conference outside the White House in which told reporters that communications from the Trump team were picked up and disseminated within the government during the 2016 campaign. Nunes said sources within the intelligence community presented him with the information. He spoke to the press after briefing the administration.”

Get this, Nunes has also been talking with President Trump about his concerns over the “incidental” collection of data. This qualifying language reveals more than it conceals. The words were chosen with care — such as what Nunes said next:

“..some of what I’ve seen seems to be inappropriate.

Don’t let the weasel words fool you. This is a big deal. Nunes also reported he “cannot rule out” President Obama ordering the surveillance as of now.

But wait, there’s more! Remember FBI-anon? There was a persistent rumor in Alt-Right circles that the FBI was secretly on Trump’s side. Or at least there was a handful of good men left in a secret faction that supported Trump. Well, the FBI is still not cooperating, /ourguys/ (if they exist) are still on the fringes…

But what was perhaps most troubling in Nunes presser is that in the aftermath of Monday’s Congressional hearing with James Comey in which the FBI director said on the record there had been no surveillance of Trump, is the House Intel Commission chair’s statement that the FBI is not cooperating with the investigation.

Here is what Nunes said:

“And I’ll tell you, NSA is being cooperative,” Nunes continued, “but so far the FBI has not told us whether or not they’re going to respond to our March 15th letter, which is now a couple of weeks old.”

This all ties back to General Flynn and the Russia faux scandal.

“We don’t actually know yet officially what happened to General Flynn,” Nunes said of how communications from Gen. Flynn’s calls were leaked to the press. “We just know that his name leaked out but we don’t know how it was picked up yet. That was one of the things that we asked for in the March 15th letter, was for the NSA, CIA, and FBI to get us all the unmasking that was done.”

The narrative from the Left has been that Trump was not wiretapped and that he’s making a big fuss now to take the spotlight off of his secret dealings with Russia. But that even if Trump were in fact wiretapped, it would be justified because of said secret dealings. Well Nunes just dealt a death blow to that narrative.

Finally, and contrary to earlier media reports, Nunes clarified that the surveillance was not related to the FBI’s investigation into possible collusion with Russia. This surveillance, he emphasized to reporters, does not “have anything to do with Russia.” As a reminder, this has been the strawman argument proposed by much of the liberal media, which has said that a wiretapping of Trump or his aides, would only confirm that his relations with Russia were suspect and thus prompted a FISA warrant.

Oh yeah, and this was all done under Obama’s watch.

8 “scandal-free” years

  • The NSA started spying on Obama when he first ran for Senator. The NSA spies on everyone – but guess what? So does everyone else. Everything on the internet is “spied on” – not just by official intelligence agencies, but by corporations, marketing firms, the ISPs themselves, etc.

What do you think the NSA does what all that data? Yes, sure, the younger guy do show your girlfriend’s topless pictures to each other, but mostly they are looking for foreign contacts and figuring out how to bet the stock market.

  • This may be slightly off-topic but years ago I worked on Capitol Hill. I remember talking to a fellow from the GAO (then the General Accounting Office, now the Government Accountability Office). He said that the FBI was the most difficult agency in Washington to secure cooperation from. (The GAO did mostly accountability of funds stuff.) He said the CIA and the NSA were models of cooperation compared to the FBI. That pattern may not have changed in the twenty-three years since I left Capitol Hill, and on matters much more important than “what is the money being spent for” issues.

  • What’s going on is pretty typical, one criminal rolls over on the other in order to protect his own ass.

  • You would have to be really freaking dumb not get it that the Left will spy on you, they will abuse you, they will torture and kill you and your family.
