President Trump Kills The Trans-Pacific Partnership

Throughout the 2016 campaign, the Left insisted that President Trump was only pretending to oppose TPP:

“Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump on Monday will start to unravel the behemoth trade deal he inherited from his predecessor, as he signed an executive action to withdraw from the negotiating process of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

That executive action sends signals to Democrats and leaders in foreign capitals around the world that Trump’s rhetoric on trade during the campaign is turning into action. Trump vowed during the campaign to withdraw the US from the Pacific trade deal, commonly known as TPP, which he argued was harmful to American workers and manufacturing. …”

They were wrong.

George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton wouldn’t have killed TPP in a million years. Unlike Obama, it turns out he was also serious about renegotiating NAFTA with Canada and Mexico. Obama campaigned on renegotiating NAFTA and free trade agreements and only signed more of them.

  • This is probably the #1 reason I voted for Trump.

Trump is like the 2nd coming of Pat Buchanan and I am glad America is getting this chance to Right Itself.

All the stuff about the Wall and ending Muslim refugees is just icing on the cake.

  • Trump’s meeting with the labor union presidents had them singing his praises. Trump just knee-capped the Democratic party, co-opting the labor unions that form the core of their get-out-the-vote efforts in the rust belt. Thus, ensuring that the states Trump turned from Democrat to Republican will likely stay Republican in the mid-terms and the next Presidential election.

Trump has within days of his inauguration turned 30 years of free trade fanaticism on its head. He rejected the CATO Institute Chamber of Commerce conservatives and the Al Gore Democratic Leadership Council faction of the Democrats.

If Trump transforms the Republican party into a Nationalist, economically populist party, it will be the best thing to happen to American politics in most of our lifetimes.

Let’s just hope he starts the deportations ASAP.

  • I’ve got to admit, I was feeling quite down on Trump during the run up to the inauguration, but his inaugural address and his actions over the last few days have made me optimistic again. I hope he continues to surprise.
